Coastal Plain participates in a program with the USDA to distribute surplus commodities (non-perishable food) to economically disadvantages families. The food distribution takes place approximately every three (3) months usually from 8:30 a.m. until noon. There is no set schedule, but Coastal Plain advertises upcoming distributions in the local paper and on the radio. Lowndes county residents can also call Coastal Plain to ask about the timing of the next food distribution.

Food distribution takes place in Valdosta at the Coastal Plain office building, Hahira at the Courthouse on Main Street, and Lake Park at the Hillmonts Apartments. Each area’s distribution takes place on a different day and service is on a first come, first served basis. Those arriving late in the day may not receive a full, or any, distribution.

In order to obtain a distribution, bring a picture id and information regarding the number of persons in the household and monthly income.

Second Harvest food bank generally partners with Coastal Plain and distributes surplus food at the distribution that takes place in Valdosta. Additionally, local area community services organizations often set up information booths as well.
