Coastal Plain can help qualifying Lowndes County residents pay for most life sustaining prescription drugs. Life sustaining generally means any drugs that are required to maintain a person’s long-term health, including drugs for clients with cancer, HIV, Diabetes, Hypertension, etc. Coastal Plain cannot assist with prescriptions for behavioral medication, antibiotics (unless required as a life sustaining measure) or pain medication. Coastal Plain is generally unable to assist with obtaining prescription drugs on a same-day or emergency basis.

To qualify for the prescription drug program, income must fall below 200% of the Federal poverty guidelines. To get started, visit Coastal Plain to fill out an application. Along with a completed application, Coastal Plain will need to see a picture ID, a social security card, and income information.

Once qualified, Coastal Plain clients must obtain an original prescription from their health care provider or if clients’ are seeking a refill, they can ask the pharmacy from which they obtained the original prescription to fax the original prescription to Coastal Plain or one of its contracting Drug Stores.

Coastal Plain can pay up to $125 per visit per month for up to a total yearly amount of $500. Clients seeking financial assistance from Coastal Plain on an on-going basis must re-qualify (fill out an application and present qualifying information) every month.
